Professional Development: Alcohol101+ and the Safe Bar Program

Alcohol101+ Program Description: Alcohol101+: Tom Grane, the Manager of Education Programs with Responsibility.org, will discuss Alcohol101+, a free, digital alcohol education course developed by Responsibility.org, and strategies for its inclusion in campus prevention efforts. Alcohol101+ addresses content such as standard drink size and BAC, risk-reduction tips, and alcohol’s impact on the body. The presentation will demonstrate aspects of the program and explore the course’s theoretical framework, development, and content.

Safe Bar Program: The mission of Safe Bar is to work with local bars & restaurants in raising awareness about alcohol's role in sexual assault, engaging bar owners and staff in bystander intervention, and working together to do our part to prevent sexual violence across Tennessee. Jordan Owens and Jack Ohmes from the Sexual Assault Center of Middle TN will join us to discuss the Safe Bar Program as well as additional resources and trainings available to our campus communities from the Sexual Assault Center of Middle TN.

Jack Ohmes: Jack Ohmes is the Statewide Training Specialist for Safe Bar and Safe Tracks at the Sexual Assault Center of Middle Tennessee, where he focuses on training the community to help foster safer spaces in Tennessee. Jack grew up in Saint Paul, MN, and attended Belmont University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He minored in Social Justice and was originally brought to the Sexual Assault Center through his internship with Haley & Michaels and their involvement in the creation of “Safe Tracks”. Jack loves writing songs and hanging out with Scooby Doo & Johnny Cash, his pet guinea pig and cat.

CHASCo April 2024 Membership Meeting
By Kayce Matthews 18 Mar, 2024
Hello CHASCo Members, The annual Baxter Award recognizes the extraordinary contributions of CHASCo members who have gone above and beyond their everyday work to achieve excellence in higher education prevention programming. We are currently taking nominations for this award. Submit your nominations here by April 5, 2024. We have just extended the deadline to allow for additional submissions. Please note that all decisions and deliberations will be completed by the CHASCo Executive Committee. CHASCo staff is not involved in the decision-making process. Our executive committee will use a scoring system to evaluate the nominees on criteria including how the candidates have gone above and beyond to address the prevention of substance use, suicide, sexual or interpersonal violence, and related prevention issues; and their success at fostering cross-campus collaboration at the local, state, and/or national level. Best, Kayce
