Professional Development: The growing salience of belonging in higher education settings plays a critical role in a student’s well-being, success, and performance. Student belonging is centered around their feelings of acceptance, mattering, and respect. Research reflects that sense of community is essential for student achievement. This presentation will give a brief overview of sense of belonging in higher education and share strategies on how to increase community connect on our campuses.

Dr. Fredericks also holds a PhD in Community Engagement from Point Park University. She has a background in teaching first-year seminar courses, guest lecturing on diversity and inclusion fundamentals, human resource management, program administration, data analytics, and, community outreach. She has lived, studied, and volunteered abroad in over seven countries, and brings a variety of experiences from both non-profit and corporate positions. CHASCo April 2024 Membership Meeting
By Kayce Matthews 18 Mar, 2024
Hello CHASCo Members, The annual Baxter Award recognizes the extraordinary contributions of CHASCo members who have gone above and beyond their everyday work to achieve excellence in higher education prevention programming. We are currently taking nominations for this award. Submit your nominations here by April 5, 2024. We have just extended the deadline to allow for additional submissions. Please note that all decisions and deliberations will be completed by the CHASCo Executive Committee. CHASCo staff is not involved in the decision-making process. Our executive committee will use a scoring system to evaluate the nominees on criteria including how the candidates have gone above and beyond to address the prevention of substance use, suicide, sexual or interpersonal violence, and related prevention issues; and their success at fostering cross-campus collaboration at the local, state, and/or national level. Best, Kayce
