Professional Development: Sexual Assault Awareness Month — Title IX, VAWA, & Campus Prevention Efforts
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. As staff, faculty, Title IX officers, and others at Tennessee’s universities and colleges engage in prevention work across campuses, we must be mindful of not only our requirements under Title IX—but also under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Clery Act, and Tennessee state law. This session will:
· Review prevention requirements under Title IX;
· Analyze how VAWA, Clery, Title IX, and Tennessee law intersect and what respective prevention expectations are in place for your campuses;
· Explain when VAWA may require action when Title IX does not;
· Explore how the new, pending Title IX regulations could further impact your campus prevention and response responsibilities; and
· Provide practical and engaging examples of prevention and educational awareness programming.
Join Blaze Bowers, Regional Director for Client Relations & Engagement at Grand River Solutions and campus student affairs and compliance expert, for this session on better understanding our federal and state prevention expectations and creating equitable, empowering campuses for all students.
This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.
